Thomas Bo Nilsson & Team present their second project at Schauspielhaus Vienna
after „Cellar Door“. In spring 2016 they transformed the whole building in Porzellangasse into a walkable cosmos, a labyrinthian
underworld of a provincial village. Complemented by a short film and an online presence that allowed various interactions
with the performers, the „Cellar Door“ triptych sketched a disturbing panorama of a brutalized society for which the borders
between reality and virtuality are blurred.
The theatre career of the Swedish architects and installation
artist began in German language theatre with the poduction „Die Erscheinung der Martha Rubin“ at Schauspiel Cologne where
he collaborated with the Danish performance collective SIGNA and got invited to Theatertreffen Berlin in 2008. Later on Nilsson
was several times nominated as stage designer of the year by Theater Heute for his productions at Volksbühne Berlin and Salzburg
Festival. Since 2013 he has been working as director together with stage designer Julian Wolf Eicke and his co-director Jens
Lassak. In 2014 they developed their first internationally acclaimed first production „MEAT“ at Schaubühne Berlin. Unlike
in his first excessive installation with more than 40 performers, Thomas Bo Nillsson chooses an intimate form for his second
work at Schauspielhaus. With a group of five actors he is exploring a mysterious, claustrophobic net of dependencies, hatred
and psychic decay. Once again he is exploring how interhuman exchange, the opportunity to communicate with others about one‘s
life is transfered into virtuality and a scenery of isolation is created.
